FAQs
What is the Oxford tutorial model?
It is a centuries-old method of education built on one-on-one mentorship, dialogue, and rigorous engagement with ideas. At Frances Advisors, we have adapted this tradition for high school and college admissions.
Do you only work with top students?
No. The tutorial model is for every student who wants to grow. We meet students where they are and cultivate their ability to think, write, and express themselves with clarity and confidence.
Is tutoring virtual or in person?
We offer Zoom-based tutorials nationwide, with phone calls and email communication available readily.
When is a good time to start working with Frances Advisors?
The earlier, the better. Many families begin as early as 9th or 10th grade to build strong academic habits, explore intellectual passions, and prepare for the application process in a thoughtful, unhurried way. That said, we also work intensively with 11th and 12th graders on essays, testing, and applications. Each stage of high school offers distinct opportunities for growth, and we tailor our guidance accordingly.
How many meetings do you have with students?
There is no set number. Some students prefer occasional consultations for essays or AP exams; others work with us regularly over several years. The Oxford tutorial model is built on dialogue, and we adapt the frequency of meetings to the student’s needs—ranging from weekly sessions to concentrated support during application deadlines.
Are parents required to attend?
No. While we value parent communication, our tutorials are designed to empower students to take ownership of their work. Parents are always welcome to check in on progress, but the heart of our process is the one-on-one mentorship between advisor and student.
Can you guarantee admission?
No responsible firm can make that promise. What we do guarantee is an elevated educational experience that strengthens critical thinking, sharpens writing, and helps students present their most authentic and compelling selves. Our results speak for themselves: Frances Advisors students have consistently earned admission to the world’s most selective universities.
Why would a family work with Frances Advisors?
Because we are not simply preparing students to get into college—we are mentoring them as scholars. Our boutique approach, adapted from the Oxford tutorial tradition, emphasizes intellectual seriousness, personal voice, and rigorous preparation. Families choose Frances Advisors when they want more than a formulaic admissions process: they want a transformative educational experience that endures long after acceptance letters arrive.
How do I get started?
Begin with a complimentary consultation. We’ll discuss your student’s goals, challenges, and timeline, then design a mentorship plan tailored to their needs.
